Band Staff
| David Thornton is a native of Springfield Virginia. He graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance. While at FSU, Mr. Thornton was Head Drum Major for the World-renowned Marching Chiefs in addition to participating in FSU's Symphonic Band, Wind Orchestra and Philharmonia. He has studied clarinet with Frank Kowalsky and Deborah Bish and conducting with Patrick Dunnigan and Richard Clary. Prior to his appointment at Leon High School, he was the Assistant Band Director at Eau Gallie High School in Melbourne, FL. He holds active memberships in the Music Educators National Conference, the Florida Music Educators Association, and the Florida Bandmasters Association. Mr. Thornton is also a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America Inc. |
Shannon Stovall
| Shannon Stovall has been studying the percussive arts for the last sixteen years. In that time he has been garnished with such honors as Florida All-state Percussionist, FSU Tri-state Percussion Prinicipal, FSU Honors Chamber Winds Solo Percussionist, FSU Big 8 Drumline Section Leader, as well as Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps Tenor-line Section Leader. He has also received several Superior awards for Snare, Timpani, and Mallet solos and ensembles at both the District and State levels. He has played drumset and written drum parts in a variety of styles with many fabulous ensembles including Kilometers, Pepper Drive, Dorian Q, and Punch White. He has been requested to record tracks for various artists by the producer John Holmes (Holmes has worked with Elton John, OutKast, Whitney Houston, Dr. Dre, Pink, Peter Frampton, Ludacris, Kilometers, Crumbling Arches). Shannon is currently recording for Kilometers and playing live performances with the Dorian Q jazz quartet as well as teaching private lessons at Stubb’s School of Music and instructing percussion at Leon High School.

![]() Suzanne Ferrell-Locke Colorguard Director | Suzanne grew up in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts and graduated from East Bridgewater High School where she was drum major of the East Bridgewater Viking Marching Band and captain of the East Bridgewater Winterguard. Upon graduating high school, she attended Florida State University, where she earned degrees in Mathematics and Actuarial Science. She was also a proud member of the world renowned Marching Chiefs and captain of the FSU colorguard. Another experience Suzanne brings to the table is her participation in Drum Corps International. She is proud to be a former member of the Boston Crusaders Colorguard. Before marching with the Crusaders, she was a member of East Coast Jazz. Currently, in addition to pursuing her passion for colorguard by instructing the Marching Redcoats Colroguard, Suzanne is teaching math at Cornerstone Learning Community. |
