July 16-25
CRAZY FOR YOU
A Gershwin musical comedy
Music and Lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin
Book by Ken Ludwig

Crazy For You features the amazing music of George and Ira Gershwin with solo opportunities for 7 lead characters. The show is set is New York, in the Broadway District, and also in Deadrock, Nevada, where the locals try to save their theatre by “putting on a show”. There is a love story, mistaken identity, and a tangled plot-all to songs like Someone to Watch Over Me, I Got Rhythm, Slap that Bass, Embraceable You, and many more Gershwin favorites.
Crazy For You has 30 names characters, including the dance ensemble of Follies Girls who travel from New York to Deadrock and an ensemble of Cowboys who hang around the saloon in Deadrock until they get drafted to put on a musical!
Leading man, Bobby Child, is a young tenor with major solo, dancing, and acting numbers.
Polly, the leading lady, is a soprano who is trying to save the theatre she loves so much.
Irene is a society debutante and Bobby’s fiancée until she falls for the saloon proprietor, Lank. Both of these roles have solo singing and lots of acting.
Bobby’s mother, Mrs. Child, is a major acting role.
Bela Zangler is a Broadway producer who ends up in Deadrock with his showgirls. Bela is a major acting role with some limited solo singing.
The Follies Girls and Cowboys all have ensemble singing and lots of dancing!
This is a large cast show with opportunities for EVERYONE! If you’ve never been in a musical, this is a great one to start with. And if you’re a “pro” you’ll find this a show where there are more roles than most. Seven characters have solo singing: Polly, Bobby, Irene, Zangler, Lank, Patricia and Eugene (English tourists) and Everett Baker (Polly’s father).
Plan your summer now; rehearsals begin June 14, 10:00-4:00 in the Leon Performing Arts Theatre. Audition information will be posted in the spring. Auditions are in May.
